New year's was chill, went to a friend's house with a few other people after eating dinner here with family and just hung out, no huge PART WOO mess, it was relaxing. Before that I was sick pretty much the whole time since I finished classes, I got a sinus infection and was pretty much out of it for a week, and after that it was a sore throat. That whole time became a lazy fuck and just played Persona 4 since I couldn't do much else, but once I started feeling better after new year's, I realized how lazy I've been, goddamn. Even though Persona 4 was pretty mush as awesome as P3, (along with Disgaea DS and other crap I played) I pretty much wasted half of my break :/
So now I've been cutting back on games, randomly playing MGS Snake Eater for now, and I've been looking at more productive shit to do. I guess that'll be one of my resolutions for now. Let's make a list, hooza
Cut back on videogames (gasp!). I really play too much crap when I could be doing something else. So I'll do that, although I'll still get new stuff and try to find more consoles to add to my collection >>
Screw that gym shit and working out. It just won't work for me haha. If my weight will always be somewhere around 110-115 lbs. wether I eat healthy and work out or eat chocolate-covered bacon with ranch, then screw it. I've already started drinking more water, so I guess I'll just eat healthy stuff more often (a.k.a. japanese food :3 ).
Be more productive in general... I was lazy as shit last year, specially since I lost my job. Instead of sitting on my ass I'll try to dind something else to do, including:
Build up my portfolio... I pretty much have nothing at the moment. I need to polish up some old stuff, start making new things, and get a working rythm going on. Hopefully I can build up a site soon, it'd be nice to catch up to CSS and crap nowadays.
Kinda related to that last point is to get a job again, although just a "job" would not be that ideal. I want to try and start working on small stuff independently, and hopefully I can build up on that. If I start to work for a established design place here, it'll pretty much be like every other dead-end job I've had before, and I'd really hate to go back to that. Working as someone errand boy in design here in Guadalajara pretty much equals long hours and shit pay with no way to input anything yourself, so screw that. Classes are starting up again soon, so meanwhile I pretty much gto some work there as the tech support guy that fixes people's virus/adware/porn-infested laptops, but that doesn't cut it really, not when I'd like to save up for a new laptop or to go travel.
On the travel front... I'm not sure what will be going on, but I'd like to make it somewhere this year too. Idealy, I'd like to go to NC for Animazement, and hopefully I can stay a week minnimum... that should be doable, but some other stuff has popped up. A friend's dad lives in San Francisco, and he suggested that we go there after the semester's over and try to find a summer job, and we can stay at his dad's place. That would be pretty awesome, considering the current exchange rate for the dollar here is almost 14 pesos per dollar. So even a crappy retail part-time job would pay better than working full time 7 days a week here, so if we go I could save up some money. I still need to talk to the 'rents and get more details worked out with him, but it shouldn't be that hard to do. If possible, I could go to NC for a week or two, and then fly to SanFran, once there I could work and get the return ticket later since I'll have money and I'll know when I'll return depending on being able to find a job or not.
Tattoos and piercings, that's a given, I want more. But of course those will also depend on getting a good job or getting some good work done, so i can afford them, and also so i can decide what to get. I'd like an industrial, but workign at some place or working by myself will decide if I can get it or not, or the work atmosphere if I work at some place. Tattoos are already planned but i just need to be able to afford them :p
Get good grades. It's not like I'm failing classes or anything, my average is at 9.1/10 right now, but I'd like to pull it up to hopefully 9.5 by the time I graduate. It's really not hard, I'll just have to actually work and make and effort in my classes, even the bullshit horrible ones that I've gotten the minimum pass grade on before. I don't care much about it either, since some grades won't really dictate if I'll be able to get a good job or be a hobo for life, but my plan's still to try and get a scholarship to go to grad school in Japan, so if a good average helps when doing paper work, then so be it. Again, it shouldn't be hard, the minimum average they require for applying is 8.0/10, so 9.5 sounds fantastic to me. And while we're on that...
Study, study, study japanese. It's hard to explain... with italian, I know it just sticks and I learn it even though I never pick up a book because its one of the romance languages just like spanish, my native language. I've only been taking it for two semesters, but I've been going at japanese for 3 years now, and I just can't get it through. From what I felt with english and now with italian, it's like there's this mental line, where at first you can begin to undesrtands a language and know how it works... grammar, vocab, etc. but you still need to look chit up, use boos, and can only do simple sentences. Once you cross that line, that's the point where you start THINKING in that language, and that helps tons when trying to build up complex sentences. With italian, I have crossed that line, I can think simple and kinda difficult stuff in italian, even though I have a way to go to be fluent, but GODDAMN. What i need is to figure out how to cross that line with japanese.Another problem is the difference between what i've learned from books, and the japanese that's actually spoken. For example, this text I saved from some blog a while ago:
Me: Ah, konnichi wa!
Student: Oh, omae nan ya. Doko ikun?
Me: Anno...nani desu ka?
Student: ...Wakarahen?
Me: Etto...mou ichido itte kudasai?
Student: Mou kai yun? Nani yo?
Me: Umm...kyou wa atsui desu ne!
Student: Yappari gaijin wakarahen wa. Yameteoku.
Me: Anou...tokoro de, anata no sentou ryoku was ku-sen ijou desu ka?
Student: ...Omae, aho chau?
And, of course, for the Japanese-impaired...
Me: Oh, good afternoon!
Student: Oh, it's you. Where're you goin'?
Me: Um...what?
Student: You don't understand?
Me: Um...could you say that again please?
Student: Say what again?
Me: Ehh...today's pretty hot, isn't it!
Student: Yep, Gaijin don't understand Japanese. Eh, screw it.
Me: Um, by the way, would you happen to have a power lever OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAND?
Student: ...What the fuck is wrong with you?
So yeah, besides building up advanced grammar now, I have to learn about popular speech... preps, thugs, super-formal speech, osaka-ben, kansai-ben, etc. Thankfully some of the girls I know from the exchange program from japanese class have helped me out with that, but damn, it's like starting all over. Another problem is that I really need tu study so i can keep things fresh, and I just haven't done that before. So now I'm gonna try to sit for at least 30 mins. per day studying and reviewing stuff. Hopefully soon i can cross that line soon and I can take the level 2 JLPT this year. And I'll have to really concentrate on it, so I guess I'll have to stop reading my croatian book for now >>
So I guess that's it. This'll be mostly a list for myself so i can remember these things and keep goin at it this year, I'd really like to do them, specially the japanese stuff. Allright, sorry for flooding your LJ friends page, now it's time for food, FUUU~

Hi LJ. So, I'm gonna be in LA and Vegas for the next 10 days.
bbl lol

So, since I have so much goddamn free time and I've been too much of a lazy bum, I decided to try to make chiptune/NEScore music after listening so much to it. I have no idea what I'm doing, since I don't know shit about composing or notes or music sheets... but so far buying the cables, messing around with the software and hardware setups is pretty fun :D I need to get some 3.5"-RCA cables, another 3.5"-3.5", and a bunch of Y-splitters, and look around for some more freeware and samples, as well as look more into composing on old gaming hardware.
Stuff I'm surrently using:
- Hardware: Game Boy Pocket, 2 GBAs, DS Lite, Laptop. Also have a USB controller for using the emus, and using joy2key and a USB-PS2 adapter I could use the IIDX or taiko controllers for whatever they could be used.
- Software: Game Boy Camera, Rythm Tengoku (GBA), Electoplankton (DS), Nanoloop (GB & GBA), Band Brothers DX (DS), Taiko no Tatsujin's alternate drum sounds (PS2 and DS), Pocket Music (GB & GBA) Nitrotracker (DS), GlitchDS, ProteinDS, tr909 (DS), Mario Paint Composer, PiSTON Collage a.k.a PXTone (PC), Audacity (PC), Nero Wave Editor (PC).
- Shitload of GB, GBA, NES and SNES ROMs for samples.
Stuff to get:
- Korg DS-10 (DS), Rythm Tengoku Gold (DS) (if it has a drums mini-game again), Little Sound DJ (GB), a good condition DS phat I can find for cheap, Famicom edition GB Micro, NES hardware, NES flash card and music software, SNES music crap (if there is any, I have two SNES units), a GB flash cart, a couple GBA flash carts, probably another 2 R4s or other slot-1 carts for the DSs. Pop'n and Guitar Hero controllers, too. I also have an Atari, but that crap will probably be easier to emulate, if there's any sequencers or anything like that for it. A shitty toy synthetizer could be fun to mess around with maybe.
Like I said, this is pretty much for fun right now, but I'm starting to like it =] Let's see if I'm able to do something decent, maybe I can post something later... just don't expect anything soon >> A friend of mine who already makes some experimental music says he could teach me how to use Sonar and Ableton Live later... if I can get the hang of getting some tunes done, I might try that later.
For those of you who don' know what the shit I'm talking about, here are some chiptune artists and sites:
Maru, from Japan: Myspace, listen to "Insane Youth" :o And here's a video of him freestyling on the streets of Fukuoka
USK, Maru's pal: Myspace, and video of him and Maru live at a show in Osaka
KPLEKRAFT: Myspace
Other artists: DJ Scotch Egg, Environmental Sound Collapse, 6955, Dong, PixelH8.

With all the crap going on with school, I didn't have any time to study japanese, except when i went to class, so now I'm really behind, and i forgot a lot of stuff, so I need to review big time. I got 3 months of free time now, so it shouldn't be a problem, and also I've met some japanese exchange students here that i could hang out with, as well as some people i talk to now via email. The thing is i really lost the habit of studying... I got my stuff, sat down, and tried to review, but i got tired real quick and ended up doing something else :/ I'll have to set up a schedule now, and make it a habit again to study. Speaking of which, the Japan trip is canceled. I was pretty pissed off about that, but oh well. Now I' planning on going to LA, hopefuly i get that figured out soon.
Besides japanese stuff, I've been playing games. I have a lot of them laying around, and it's great :] I've been playing IIDX Gold right now, as well as the Taiko games. On DS I've been leveling on The World Ends With You =, but i might start on Pokemon Diamond later haha.

Tool: Winston-Salem, June 13th
Planet of the Drums: Charlotte, June 16th
So this means: I can come to Tool, and probably Planet of the Drums too.
But first of all, my dad was ok with changing the plane ticket, but he wont let me use his credit card for a concert ticket for Tool. So... anyone think they can buyt me the ticket, then i'll pay them back as soon as possible? Contact me on AIM if you can help a brotha out :[
Next: who's coming back to raleigh right after Tool, or maybe the day after? that way i'll be able to bum a ride off to charlotte for PotD.
This trip just became 10 times more awesome :D :D
